Submit a Case Study
Creative Placemaking Communities is building a national collection of case studies that demonstrate how creative practice and arts and culture are being integrated into the design, development, and revitalization of communities.
We are especially interested in projects that have resulted in lasting physical change, for example, adaptive reuse of historic buildings, arts-integrated development, permanent public art, cultural infrastructure, and artist-led initiatives that have generated economic benefit and social impact in disinvested communities.
These projects can involve collaboration among creatives, architects, developers, planners, public agencies, foundations, and community leaders and stakeholders, or they may be led by a single visionary practitioner.
What matters most is that arts and culture played a meaningful role in shaping the project resulting in strengthening the community.
Examples of the types of project include:
Adaptive Reuse and Historic Preservation
-
Projects that transform historic buildings and cultural assets into long-term community resources.
Arts-Integrated Real Estate and Design
-
Developments where artists, cultural practitioners, and designers are embedded in the planning and design process.
Permanent Public Art and Cultural Infrastructure
-
Art Installations and facilities that become lasting components of neighborhoods and civic spaces.
Artist-Led Community Development
-
Projects initiated by Individual Creatives or Creative Businesses that generate economic activity, social impact, and neighborhood revitalization.
Public Space Transformation
-
Parks, streetscapes, plazas, and civic spaces shaped through creative and cultural strategies.
Cultural Districts and Neighborhood Revitalization
